Accountant — General, Senior, Tax and Audit Roles, UAE Employers

Mainland companies, free zone businesses, banks, audit and advisory firms and family groups across the UAE hire accountants for bookkeeping, reporting, VAT and corporate tax compliance, audit and finance management. Demand is concentrated in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with steady hiring in Sharjah and the northern emirates.

What the work involves

Maintaining the ledgers, reconciling accounts, preparing financial statements under IFRS, handling VAT returns and corporate tax compliance, supporting external audits and, increasingly, preparing systems for the UAE's e-invoicing rollout.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field, usually attested for the work visa
• Knowledge of IFRS, UAE VAT and UAE Corporate Tax
• ERP and spreadsheet skills; ACCA, CPA, CMA or CA for many senior roles
• A Ministry of Economy and Tourism licence to sign audit reports, and FTA registration to act as a tax agent

How the package works

• The visa is the employer's cost. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 an employer may not charge you recruitment or employment costs, directly or indirectly
• Basic salary matters. End-of-service gratuity is calculated on basic salary only, so ask for the split in writing
• DIFC and ADGM run their own employment laws

Before you apply

Never pay for a UAE work visa, and check whether the role involves signing audits or tax filings on behalf of clients. Those need a UAE licence or registration that an overseas qualification does not give you.
