Production Worker — Assembly, Packaging and Machine Operation, German Employers

Automotive, machinery, chemicals, food processing and logistics employers across Germany hire production workers, machine operators, packers and assembly staff. It is one of the highest-volume categories on German job boards and one of the more realistic industrial entry points into the European Union — provided the visa question is answered before the application, not after.

What the work involves

Operating, feeding and monitoring production or packaging machinery; assembling components to a production target; picking, sorting and reworking parts to specification; documenting each step in the plant's digital system; and following hygiene and safety protocols, which are strict in food and pharmaceutical production.

Requirements

• German language — basic to conversational for helper roles, with B1 increasingly asked for on machine operation
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, stated in nearly every listing
• Production or logistics experience, preferred rather than mandatory on Produktionshelfer roles
• Technical aptitude for machine operator posts; a forklift licence (Staplerschein) for logistics-adjacent work
• Physical stamina for standing, repetitive tasks and occasional lifting
• The right to work in Germany, which for non-EU applicants means a specific route rather than a general permission

How the pay works

• The statutory minimum wage is EUR 13.90 an hour from 1 January 2026, rising to EUR 14.60 on 1 January 2027. Full-time, that is about EUR 2,409 a month gross
• Quoted figures are gross. Social insurance contributions take roughly a fifth before income tax, which then depends on your tax class
• Shift premiums matter. Night and weekend supplements are a real part of take-home on rotating shift patterns, and plants covered by collective agreements pay above the general market
