Online Data Entry Clerk — Remote and Freelance Roles

Companies across healthcare, finance, e-commerce and research, and freelance platforms worldwide, hire online data entry workers to input, clean and organise information remotely — as employees, part-timers or project-based freelancers.

What the work involves

Entering data into spreadsheets, databases and company systems; transcription; product-listing updates; survey and research entry; and reviewing and correcting existing datasets for accuracy.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent; formal education requirements are minimal
• Typing speed and accuracy — commonly 40 to 60 words a minute with 95%+ accuracy
• Comfort with Excel or Google Sheets and basic database tools
• Confidentiality for roles handling personal, financial or medical data

How the pay works

• BLS OEWS May 2025 (SOC 43-9021). Median $41,340 a year ($19.88/hr); 10th percentile $15.00/hr; 90th $28.26/hr
• Freelance transcription is paid per audio minute (often $0.10 to $1.10), which is far less than per hour worked
